One Gal's Trash, Indeed

This was the scene this morning in my daughter's room. She is 15. Any questions?

No questions - but unsought advice from a mother who has survived the teenage years.

Close the door - and have a deal with her. Room has to be cleaned twice a year, or if the smell becomes noticeable through the closed door when walking past - or if anything crawls out of the room.

If any of these situation arises, my teens were given a deadline to have the room cleaned by - or I did it.

The rule was - whoever cleaned the room had the right to choose what could be thrown out, no questions asked.

Actually, I only carried out the threat a couple of times - usually when she was overwhelmed and welcomed the assistance. However, the rule was that I could choose what was thrown out if I laid my hands on it - if she beat me to picking them up, she could keep it.

Having said that - it really was the threat - in reality there was a bit of negotiation - it was the threat that worked most effectively!

Pam-
You spoke of you & I possibly being separated at birth ourselves. Could it be our children have been too? My 13 year old son's room looks much the same, just with a bit more of a guy's decorative theme somewhere under the piles & mess.
Thanks for popping by to say hello!
Always good to hear from you!
Hugs,
Karen

That picture could have been of my 14 year daughter's room. I'm so glad I am not alone. There should be a support group.
