A Quandary

I remember seeing this vintage game on someone's blog a long time ago. The name "Peter Coddle's Trip to New York" got my attention and I loved the box. The game is a sort of precurser to Mad Libs, which my family used to play on road trips. (In the summer of 1962, my parents took four children under the age of 8 and a dog from Southern California to Northern Wisconsin. And back. In a car. A station wagon. Ya know: no car seats, no seat belts, no iPods, no Gameboys, no portable DVD players. But I digress.)

Anyway, Peter's visit is the story of his big city adventure. Every paragraph has some blanks typed into the copy, and the players choose a card with a random phrase on it to fill in the blanks of the story. Are ya with me?

The story itself is quirky and charming, but the phrases on the cards are just wonderful. Phrases like: A can of veal loaf, a darned stocking, An apple dumpling, A box of stogies, A hunk of Switzer cheese, and A plump widow. Here's more....

I was thrilled when I found this game at a basement sale last weekend. I paid a dollar for it. I can't decide if I should keep it intact or use the cards to make really interesting greeting cards. What do you think?

I just discovered your blog in the google reader, perhaps because I see a few familiar faces in your blogroll. What I actually want to say is: Please use the cards!!! Don't end up like me, always affraid of using my best stuff and always needing a second card game before I can use the first one.

I vote 'USE the Cards'!
How can you leave 'A PETRIFIED KISS' boxed up??

I vote for you to use the cards. With your good sense of humor I can see some fun cards coming out of these or maybe a banner.
Whatever you do please let us nice old maids, wearing woolen union suits know what you do because eating out of a jar of pickles is not as much fun as dreaming of a wayside inn and all those petrified kisses of the past.

I was going to say...oooooh, I'd be so tempted to use those cards in cards, but don't. But, after reading the other comments, they're right, USE 'EM! Luvya!

YES! It was me (VRS—good memory Trash) who recently found this game. It is truly a hoot! I say USE the cards, since if we each found the game in the same month, there's got to be more around!

VRS Sue: I thought it was you (or FreshViintage). Even searched through your old posts, but didn't go back far enough. Checked FreshVintage too.(Colleen has a groovy SEARCH funtion installed. She's so fancy!) I LOVE Peter Coddle.

Sooooo many people are saying use the cards!! I couldn't do that to this wonderful game! Why not leave the game alone - in fact keep using it. You can still use the phrases for greeting cards - just reproduce them.
