I remember seeing this vintage game on someone's blog a long time ago. The name "Peter Coddle's Trip to New York" got my attention and I
loved the box. The game is a sort of precurser to Mad Libs, which my family used to play on road trips. (In the summer of 1962, my parents took four children under the age of 8 and a dog from Southern California to Northern Wisconsin. And back. In a car. A station wagon. Ya know: no car seats, no seat belts, no iPods, no Gameboys, no portable DVD players. But I digress.)
Anyway, Peter's visit is the story of his big city adventure. Every paragraph has some blanks typed into the copy, and the players choose a card with a random phrase on it to fill in the blanks of the story. Are ya with me?
The story itself is quirky and charming, but the phrases on the cards are just wonderful. Phrases like: A can of veal loaf, a darned stocking, An apple dumpling, A box of stogies, A hunk of Switzer cheese, and A plump widow. Here's more....
I was thrilled when I found this game at a basement sale last weekend. I paid a dollar for it. I can't decide if I should keep it intact or use the cards to make really interesting greeting cards. What do you think?
