Junky Junk and Holy Junk

There was only one estate sale listed on Friday. It started at 9:00. I went at 11:00 to make sure I missed all the dealer fist fights. It was a good day.

Let's begin with the secular....

Religious pamplets...I'm working on committing "Our Moral Life" to memory.

A little something for my garden, and eventually, my grave. My husband has strict instructions. My headstone will read: "She was sometimes a headache, but she was never a bore."
This was the best thing, hands down.

A tiny white vase stuffed with beaded flowers. I adore beaded flowers. Look at the leaves! Price...

It's the color of eggplants!

I was thrilled to find this vintage pitcher at a consignment-y thrift store in my neighborhood. It's not often that I come across something so very Frenchy and so very purple! Jugs like this one are used in French cafes to hold water...and in this case, advertise the name of the cafe. Sadly, Le Zinc no longer exists in Villefranche ~ near Nice in the south of France ~ but while doing a google search, I found this link. Le Petit Zinc in Paris is absolutely going on my bucket list. I'll be having the oysters and the Souffle au Grand Marnier.

...And a Hip Hip Hooray! goes to Gina from Vintage Junk in My Trunk. Gina won Country Living magazine's Blue Ribbon Blogger Reader's Choice Award. The magazine has not yet announced the Editor's pick for best "Collecting" blog...OGT is still in the running for that one. I'd LOVE to win the trip to New York City! I'll keep you posted.

Yippee Ki Yo Ki Yay!

There are 2 kinds of girls in this world. Girls who love horses and girls who don't. I fall into the latter category. I have been on a horse just twice in my life and both times it ended in tears. (Uncontrollable sobs of terror, actually.) We'll let those stories remain untold for the moment while I show you a gem I found at a recent sale.

Someone told me that these vintage metal horses were prizes or trophies at carnivals. And although I'm not a horse person, I think this guy is very handsome. And a much better prize than a skeevy stuffed animal or a gigantic inflatable hammer.

A Stack of Strawberry Goodness

One of my favorite junking spots on the Oregon Coast is the Kit & Caboodle Thrift Store in Tillamook. (Yes, as in the cheese.) I stopped by yesterday and found a boatload of stuff. This was my favorite find. Look at those delectable berries!

Recently, I have been drawn to strawberries in a way that I can't quite explain. So my heart skipped a beat when I saw this...

4 dinner plates, 4 salad plates and 2 bowls.

I would have been happy to pay the sticker price, but it was my lucky day. It was the annual "1/2 Off Everything Labor Day Weekend Sale". My heart skipped another beat.

You know what this means, of course. Yet another collection. Please don't tell my husband.

I don't get it...

I am consistently seduced by the art direction of magazines like Country Living. Although there aren't too many of these home decor mags on the stands these days, the photos never fail to mesmerize me...Muted toned dining rooms like this:

Gorgeous table settings like this:

Fabulous and restorative porches like this:

And then, just as you are about to be lulled into complete design bliss, you turn the page and your eyes are assaulted by this:

Can someone, anyone, please explain to me what the hell these ads are doing in Country Living magazine? Do the readers of C.L. actually buy this cr*p? I'm thinking there is a serious disconnect on the demographic. I could also bring up the topic of what the design meeting for these "babies" must have sounded like, but it makes me want to set my hair on fire. It's (almost) enough to put me off M&M's for life. Almost.
