Raffia Mafia

This summery bloom is a total throwback to my childhood growing up on Eleanor Drive. In the late 60's, they were everywhere! When my mom wasn't hosting bridge parties, she was having the girls over to create these. Just for kicks, I googled 'vintage raffia flowers' and it seems they are hot all over again. Martha even had Cathy of California do a tutorial on her show. I found this one at a sale; the gal at the check out said, "You can just have that". I can sense to the deepest depths of my being that I have just started down the slippery slope of a new collection. Be on the lookout for me, girls!

I will be on the lookout! Are they attached to things or just by themselves? Maybe a pin? Hope all is well with you!

I predict an onslaught of raffia flowers headed your way.

( Or we can all just go to Ethel's house and view her collection! )

I still have a stash of rafia and other forms of roped paper from which to create these. If it was winter I may be tempted to stay inside and create.

But after weeks of rain finally the sun is shining!

Yup, those remind me of a purse MY mom had with the raffia flowers all over it. She used it so much each Spring and Summer that eventually it fell apart!
