Junk Becomes Useful

There are few things in life more fabulous than vintage necklaces with chunky plastic beads. They remind me of candy. And my great aunt Helen. While watching Mad Men reruns or listening to Adele, I take them apart to make earrings that look like this:

I have accumulated quite a collection of the end bits of the necklaces...the claspy thingies. Because, you know, I might need them someday.

Then one morning, when I least expected it, I had an epiphany. I rushed over to Dava Bead, bought chain and jump rings and other shiny objects and repurposed the claspy thingies into new necklaces. What do you think?

Special thanks to my model (and daughter), Emma.

The new necklaces are great. What a good idea. I love it when we use things that otherwise would have been discarded and now have become lovely treasures for someone else.

WOW. Cool.

And thanks for a place to buy chain. I've got so many vintage necklaces to be repurposed and remade.

Excellent idea, because sometimes the clasps are equally as pretty as the necklaces themselves! That blue one is especially stunning!

Great idea! You could also make them into the little sweater clips from the 50's! Totally cute!

Good Lord. I thought I struck gold when I found 3 for about 3.95 to 5.95 at Red,White, and Blue Thrift last month. What a find at a dollar!

The clasps as necklaces are great. When I saw them before you made them into necklaces, I thought that they would make interesting cell phone charms!
