Millie's Blown Glass Vase

This divine vase belonged to my grandma Millie. It was one of the few items of hers that I really wanted after she died. She kept it on a side table by the big picture window in my grandparents' living room. I used to love staring into it when I was a little girl.

Can you see why?

Later in his life, my grandpa Otto decided to catalogue some of their special possessions, including this vase. Otto liked things to be simple; he used a Dymo (!) to give each item a number. Then he listed the numbers and wrote corresponding information about each piece: it's provenance, it's appraised value, etc. I remember seeing the list many years ago, but I don't have a copy. So, I don't know anything about #57 except that it is precious. I'll ask my sisters...maybe one of them has a copy of Otto's list. In the meantime, #57 lives on a side table next to the big picture window in our living room.

He was a wise man.. Back in the day, seems most folk would engrave their SS# into their most treasured possessions. I've seen it all to many times, much to my chagrin.. Hats off to Otto!

This is beautiful - I've been trying to photograph and mark my treasures so that when I'm not around any longer, my kids will know why I kept things.
