Farewell Sweet Hut...

Remember The Hut?

Well, it looks a little different now. We had the Rockaway Beach Volunteer Fire Department burn it down. Please don't yell at me.

It was 80 years old and falling apart!

It had: No foundation, rotting floors, a leaky roof, non-potable water, Carpenter ant infestation, and most notably, a 13' x 27' space shared by the following: two adults (one prone to hormone related mood swings and irritability) one teenager (ditto) and one 9 year old terrorist-in-training.

I thought it might be hard for Charlie to watch it burn. He said it was the best day of his life.

After the flames died down, we fed the firefighters pizza. They liked that.

Please don't fret dear readers. We will be putting a NEW hut on our piece of land. It's a modular type of arrangement; you know, a house built in a hangar somewhere and then brought in on a truck and plopped down on our lot ~ just like the first hut ~ only this time with a foundation.

We're going to call it Chez Pre-Fab. And girls, I'm taking you along on the journey as we get the thing up and then fill/cover it with funky, trashy, beachy JUNK!

Ah, sorry to see the hut go, but sounds like your new place will be wonderful.

I have many wonderful memories of Rockaway. Spent my honeymoon there actually, as well as many trips before and since.

Farwell Olde Hut...burning is such sweet sorrow! Actually I'd love to have our locals take out my 34 year old single wide mobile (yeah 34, mobiles were never meant to live that long!!). I'd feed 'em pizza and maybe even bake 'em an apple pie! :o} Can't wait to see how you can "junk" up a pre-fab...probably the same way I've junked up a 34 year old mobile home!! :o} With lots of chippy, love, and trash extradinaire! Have a great Sunday *elaine*

It really was a cute little "hut" but what can you do when it's all falling apart? It's better to start over. How nice to feed the firemen :+) Can hardly wait to see the next "hut" and follow on the journey!

I'm with Charlie! What could be better than pizza, a fire AND good looking fireman. Hubba Hubba! If I climbed a nearby tree, do you think you could get them to rescue me?
It will be like a phoenix rising out of the ashes...can't wait!

Poor little hut. Since you went with cremation did you put the ashes in a nice urn to place on the mantle of your new pre fab palace? Or did you spread them at sea? Can't wait to see the new and improved version, foundation and all!!

Thanks for visiting, and what a coincidence, our home was built, then transported in two halves! We didnt burn our little cottage down(though wished I had), we sold it, bit by bit, then the demolition men finished it off! It took 6 weeks for our new house to be built and moved with verandahs, carpet, lights, everything! Amazing!Have fun!

Hey Girlie, I cracked up when I read your comment. And I just wanted you to know, I don't know if you know Karen Otto, A'musements blog, but she actually has some of my necklaces in her space in a mall out there somewhere near you, I think. So you can tell anyone if you want. And thanks for your sweet comments, I hope to get up there to see all of you one day in Oregon......Is that still in the United States?????? cheers, lauri@chippys

The best day of his life - That's funny! I remeber going to a big house fire as a kid. All the grown ups were wringing their hands and talking worried talk. I was hyped up and excited about the BIG FIRE. It was awesome! ;o)
