Spring Giveaway Winner...

Hey! Happy day before my birthday!
Just to refresh, I asked for comments on what this vintage metal cart was used for...the answers ranged from drying produce to sifting flour to holding medical equipment. (I smell a lawsuit!)
Thanks for the fab suggestions!

The comment that really tickled my fancy was from Michelle at Everyday Me. She thinks it was used on a farm to hold baby chicks! I love that! I just happened to have a wind-up version handy for the photo shoot.

Congratulations Michelle, you are the winner of the spring green vintage bead earrings! Thanks to everyone for playing!

And for our next number...

I was at Gail's house last night when she and her new best friend offered to play a duet. It was just delightful. However, I still stand by my original assessment of Miss Stink-eye. She is CREEPY!

At least she has talent!

Gail fell in love with this damsel the other day at the Goodwill. I think she's creepy and...well, wrong. We were looking for a Ginger for my car, but nothing ~ or should I say no one ~ rang my chimes. Gail plans to keep Little Miss Stink-Eye on top of her piano and the two of them will play duets of show tunes. "OOOOOk-la-ho-ma, where the wind comes sweepin' down the plain..."

The Green Cart from Heaven

This cart was in the kitchen at a recent sale. I shoved aside two grannies and a toddler to get my grimy hands on it. Isn't it spectacular? The 3 drawers have wire mesh on the bottom. And the COLOR! Please. I am thinking of using it my studio to hold my collection of vintage wrapping paper. What was it originally used for? Any guesses? Whoever sends my favorite answer will get a prize. I'm not sure the prize is...but I will advise on my next post. Must run, my husband and I are going to the movies. He chose The Reader; I wonder if it's because Kate Winslet is naked for most of the film. Hhhmmm.....

How much stuff does one gal need?

Last estate sale day, I found such swell stuff, including the vintage train case which I told you about here. Want to see the rest of the stash?

Old millinery fruit....

Box stuffed with vintage sewing patterns....(bound for eBay)

Buttons, vintage tags and stickers, Christmas cut outs.....

Wooden alphabet blocks....

[Hazel wanted to help with the photo shoot...]

Old postage stamps of all types and colors. These are for my friend Joan (ssshhh, it's a surprise!) who uses them to create amazing collages. I'm keeping the old b/w photo of the tent campground to make a card for my husband and the friendly ruler that cost a whole dime...

Grand total: less than $10...not including the dog.

Ginger, the vintage GPS system

This is our new friend Ginger. Gail and I found her at Rerun, on the half price table. We were stymied as to why someone, anyone, was not willing to pay $4 for her; but never mind, we grabbed her for $2. For awhile she sat on Gail's dashboard, but we decided she deserved something a little more....whimsical. Suddenly, Gail hollars..."I know! She should be sitting on a swing, hanging from the rear view mirror!" Next thing I know, she's rummaging around behind the seat and pulls out this wire bell shaped object from a box destined for the Goodwill donation site. So I twist a little here, tie a little there and sure enough, Ginger is sitting pretty on her swing. We place a sprig of plastic lily of the valley in her arms and she is all set. As Ginger spun around to look out the window, we realized she can navigate for us on estate sale Fridays. [Said in a thin, small voice...] "Don't worry girls, I'll get you to NE Wygant Street in no time!"

Let them eat (rubber) cake!

My son loves tiny little erasers. They are made in Japan, quite elaborate and all the rage for anyone in the 2nd grade. Charlie got this little petit four in a goodie bag after a recent birthday party. He gave it to me because: "I thought you would like it, Mommy". He was right. It looks just delicious on our Valentine mantel. Hope you have a LOVE~ly day tomorrow!

I wonder where she was going...

I found this train case last weekend at an estate sale in my neighborhood. It's in great shape and was $2.00. I discovered a real treat when I brought it home and opened it.

Inside, a tray held leftovers from a journey taken a few decades ago. There was a blue colored pencil, a golf ball tee, 2 keys ~ one attached to a green string, a couple of safety pins and a small glistening rock. There was also a 1967 penny, carried ~ I presume ~ for good luck. Even though the original mirror is attached to the lid of the case, she also carried a small hand mirror for surreptitiously checking her lipstick.

This was the best part. A typed shipping tag:

Prater Bonnie Mrs.

Grewe-Johnson-Schimschock

6-15-72 3 - 15 PM

NORTHEAST

Was she going to New York for a job interview? To Boston to see her sister? To Philly for a golf tournament? Was this her first trip away from home? Was she nervous? Excited? What was the key with the green string for? A borrowed apartment? A lover's pied-a-terre? And what color was her lipstick?

There's more....The name Grewe got my attention. Twelve years ago, my husband had neck surgery. His surgeon? Dr. Ray Grewe.

So, I googled Grewe, Johnson, Schimschock. All three are or were doctors affiliated with Oregon Health Sciences University. They were mentioned in a paper on Neurotransmitters and Synaptic Transmission. The same guy that fixed my husband's ruptured disks! How's that for a co-ink-e-dink?.....And what was Bonnie's connection to the good doctors?

Then I googled Bonnie Prater. She teaches Tango and Ballroom Dancing on the Oregon Coast. Do you think she wants her train case back?

La Bella Luna

We don't get to see the moon much around here. She is usually hidden behind miles of mist and clouds. Last night, she was visible, full and spectacular! I took these photos very late, it was cold, and I was not that steady with the camera. But look what I see...
A Fava bean!
A lightbulb!
A heart!

A Junking Trip...from my couch

There was an article in the New York Times this morning about a water tower in a town called Hernando, in Mississippi. I have to admit, the story didn't interest me all that much...but this photo sure got me started. I found myself peering at the shelves behind the Douglas brothers to see what I could see. Oh, to be at Buddy's Antiques! I would buy a couple of trinkets and then me and the boys would have a cold Sassafras and talk about the good ol' days.

I (Still) Love Concrete

I know we have been down this road before. But have we ever crossed this bridge? I think not. This beauty is in my neighbor's back yard. I'm sure it has been there for several decades. I have offered big money for it...so far, no go. I like to picture it at night; garden gnomes and pixies gathered there, telling fairy tales and watching the full moon.

Oooooo....Pretty!

Found these gems recently at The Kitten. Vintage glass buttons from the Czech Republic. The colors made me feel a little light-headed, especially the green ones. And the red ones with happy, little gold birds...Tweet!
