Road Trip part 2 and Pyrex Museum

As promised, here are more photos from our recent road trip to Bainbridge Island. My daughter Emma and I headed north to visit my friend Joan and her family. Here is Emma on the ferry. That's the skyline of Seattle behind her pretty little head.

Joan and I on the pier by her cottage. We have been friends for decades!

Joan's beach on Puget Sound. Joan finds rocks, brings them home and does this....

Whenever someone comes to the house, Joan writes his or her name on a rock, which is added to the pile of previous guests' rocks under the lamp on the kitchen table. What a lovely gesture! We also took a mini road trip to Bremerton to the Pyrex Museum. The colors! The shapes! The only thing missing was a tuna casserole with potato chip topping.

Junking on the Oregon Coast

I present to you, dear reader, the various trash and treasures I found in and around Rockaway Beach over the weekend.
First up: vintage Bingo game, milk glass hobnail lamp base, aqua Bell jar, 2 floral saucers, 2 vintage butter/cheese knives and a stack of old recipe books. You can barely see the fab chippy table underneath, but I had to have it. When I turned it upside down to put in in the van, I saw this:

Yes, boys and girls, it's a Heywood Wakefield. It's so beat up and needs a new coat of paint. I can't decide between white or turquoise. What do you think? I will show before and after photos in a future post.

This box of Christmas joy was $2. I admit I put the best stuff on top for the photo, but it's full of vintage ornaments.
1960's Christmas album...can't you just image the dysfunction in that household? And a country style painting that attracts and repels at the same time!

I also found linens...a pink tablecloth, a turquoise tablecloth, a vintage sheet smothered in pink roses and a never used mallard duck linen dish towel. OH! Last, but certainly not least, the old metal granny cart with wheels!

Caught in the act!

We are convinced that our feline Frankie is actually a dog in a cat suit. He speaks in more of a bark than a meow, loves to roll around in the dirt, and drinks out of the toilet. We suspected he may also be sipping from the fish bowl and his morning I caught him red-pawed. See Frankie's tongue? See the pet Beta fish? Rest assured, the cat does not want to eat the fish. He just wants a little refreshment.

A little taste of Paris

Bonjour! Here's to all us gals who adore anything French: French fries, French toast, Leather-clad French men reeking of Gitanes and Bordeaux, preferably riding on a big motorcycle.

Voila! A little vignette of Paris that is currently on my mantel.

E.T. on the left I bought 20 years ago when I lived in New York at a junk shop called "Love Saves the Day" on 2nd Ave. @ around 9th St. It is not only a splendid thing to behold, but also serves a purpose. Two actually. It is a bottle (!) and also houses a music box which plays "Last time I saw Paris" of course.

E.T. on the right is also a bottle for a French cognac. I found this one at a garage sale in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania for $1. I must pause here to ponder why would anyone in their right mind would sell such a treasure for $1....pondering....

The small versions are vintage souvenirs. One I found on my first honeymoon (okay, okay I've had two) at a junk shop in the south of France. The provenance of the other one escapes me but I know for sure it was not found on my second honeymoon.

The oil painting of the river Seine I bought from the artist (cute and smelly) 5 years ago at the Clingnancourt Flea Market. I added the wide-mouth frog with a floral posy to the scene because he makes me happy and because he is a FROG.

Back in Blogville

Dear Reader,
Life has been throwing a few curve balls my way lately, and blogging has been on hold. However, I am back with bells on to tell you about my recent road trip to see my friend Joan.

Joan and I have been friends since we were in the 4th grade in Garden Grove, California. She now lives with her family in a beach cottage on Bainbridge Island near Seattle.

The second best part of the visit was seeing where they live; this is Joan by her garden gate on the banks of Puget Sound.

Can you believe this garden?

The first best part was seeing Joan's amazing art. This gal is a genius I tell ya.
Check out this collage made from British postal stamps and a picture of Her Majesty.

Joan also made this fab collage from the plastic thing-a-ma-jigs that keep your bread bag closed.

Look closer...

More later on the road trip and our visit to the PYREX Museum. (!!!)
